Although the primary focus of the Summit was Maemo 5 and the N900, there was some very welcome and long-awaited news for legacy OMAP2 devices. Texas Instruments announced at the Summit on Friday that they would be releasing the graphics drivers for the processors powering the N800, N810 and N810WE in the next 2 weeks. This is great news for the community, as it means that it will be possible to jazz up the UI for Mer and Maemo 4. Classic tablet owners may have some fun in store for them in the near future.
It's great to know that the N800 and N810 have been recategorized as legacy devices now, even though the N900 is just making its way out (and is not even out in the US)...
I'm pretty sure/positive Nokia still owes us, in the LEAST, one more major release. this is a promise they made to the community and are now pulling back. see this is why android is a much better platform, google gives incentive and support to develop, not to mention a stage to stand on, (which they support by not lying to their customer just bc its inconvenient!) .....ridiculas nokia, we were promised one more update (as in os, not patch updates!) you could learn a thing or 2 or 500 things from google.
whats wrong with u " a lil too late" are u crazy this is a REBIRTH. had we gotten the drivers from day one my n800 would be maxed out by now. but now can u imagine ports of ipod touch games using the same omap 2420 on the n800 WOOW!!! tHIS IS LINUX WERE TALKING ABOUT THE LEGACY DEVICES ARE UNSTOPPABLE NOW. OMG!!! CANT WAIT P.S DOEST ANYBODY REMEMBER THEN THE IPHONE FIRST CAME OUT WITH garbage apps that had no real graphics. well the n8x0 devices been like that until now. NOW ITS OUR TURN!!!
I whole heartedly agree, this is a "rebirth" for the n810 and for you and me that is sweet. But much more development would have gone into the 8x0 had this been there from day one. Most are going to want to move to the new platform which offers more flexibility not to mention Nokia support itself.....I know it might sound like I'm just complaining and really I probably am, but I am attempting to give constructive criticism @Nokia. Google (in my opinion) is doing a far better job, Maemo(which I like more) could easily burst onto the scene just as fast (if not faster) then Android and be a better competitor then 99% of the field with hungry developers with $ signs in their eyes. But by not keeping promises when it doesnt benefit them and by not providing the necessary rights at the right times they are doing a horrible job at implementing anything. Its mostly only thanks to the community that this project is still even alive, and they treat us like dirt.
Ok you win, I loove my n810, it gives so much in such a small form factor. and I really like how Maemo is curve-balling the entire mobile market.... Lol, I really just want an official port of Maemo 5 to n810  And if Nokia's main consumer focus is the community so far, then they have done a decent job. :)
THANK YOU.Q and to further add the n900 and the n8X0 are exactly the same as iphone 3g and 3gs. the higher has both a OMAP 3430 while the lower has OMAP 2420 lol. i wonder ig iphone ports are possible. i WOnDeRRRrrrr.....
There is a considerable difference between the 3430 and the 2420, but regardless, what would make this awesome is if Nokia managed to also release or open some drivers so that we could use skype video and google chat for video calls?

They've essentially been legacy devices since the first Summit in Berlin, where it was announced that Maemo 5 would not be going to the N800 and N810.
fantastic, I look forward to a newer kernel and bug-fixes and optimised drivers to help us get the best out of our legacy devices!
I can't wipe this grin off of my face. It's like Christmas!
Legacy?
I just upgraded my 10 year old PalmOS device to a cutting edge (almost) n810.
MAEMO 5, WILL FUNCTION IN NOKIA N810?
Nokia will not support it, but the community will do every thing possible to port it. If it succeedes, it will, however, be slow...
However, now that N8x0 gets the graphics driver, maybe not TOO slow... We'll just have to wait and see, no, wait and contribute!

btw ti releasing drivers is very sweet, but really a little too late.....thanks for tossing us some crums for our "legacy" devices!....

isnt there going to be anything COOL on the n900 like games or apps? Nothin worth buying it seems to be there.

Be patient, anonymous. The device hasn't even been released to the public yet.
btw, by the sound of things we already have some n900 fanboys, awesome!
What happened? It's been more than two weeks... and i haven't seen any drivers released, am i missing something.
