N900 + Windmobile.ca - So close, yet So far...

On a hunch, I decided to scan available GSM operators from my N900 this morning in Toronto. Wouldn't you know it, 'CAN 490' was displayed showing a nice little '3G' symbol beside it !

But alas, when attempting to connect, I was denied.

Some Googling of CAN 490 revealed that it is indeed Windmobile (Globalalive Wireless).

Come on Canada - we need choice now! Let Windmobile throw the switch.

What?! You can scan available GSM operators?! How the heck?? Do you need a special SIM card?

They are not online because the incumbent oligopoly made sure to block them.

Remember they are the one who appealed to the CRTC to have them investigate ownership, because, no, Canada does not do protectionism by requiring telcos to have a majority of Canadian funding...

As for the lack of 3G with the N900, blame Nokia. They are the one who crippled the device.

EIPI,

Hey! You have only yourselves to blame... Not our fault that the CRTC is in the pay of Rogers... :p
