Merry N8X0 Drivers to All !

Carsten Munk, our maemo.org distmaster sent me an IM this morning. It looks like he and his Mer team have received the fabled OMAP2 graphics drivers from Texas Instruments. They have had some success in meshing the drivers into the OS, and things are going forward on that front.

I'm sure it is not a straightforward task, so let's give the Mer team some space while they work this all out. Things will get interesting for the legacy N8X0 devices!

Happy Holidays to all !

what about 770 drivers?

The OMAP2 devices (N800, N810, N810WE) have an onboard graphics accelerator. I do not know that the 770 has one (it used a different TI chip).

How fast do you think the acceleration would be? Will it be useful for anything?

@mrp: the 770 (OMAP1) has no 3D accelerator, so it wouldn't work because the hardware is missing.

Great news! I'm eagerly waiting for the next versions of Mer ...

On TI's "OMAP™ 2 Processors: OMAP2420" site it says:
".., a TI TMS320C55x™DSP (220 MHz), 2D/3D graphics accelerator, imaging and video accelerator,..."

Dedicated 2D/3D graphics accelerator at 2 million polygons per second.

So we might get some OpenGL ES 1.1 action, but how about TV out?

Do we also get analog/digital TV video output, full-motion video encode and decode with VGA resolution of 30 frames per second.?

I belive it would require some hard-hacking, right?

Most likely =-D

Well it would be cool to solder dvi port to OMAP2, but n810 uses the same Nokia 3,5 mm:n AV-connector as the n900 and n95 which both have TV out (analog least)
